Overview

Young Hoon International Middle School (YHIMS) is operated and maintained as a private school designed to accommodate both students who have lived abroad and those who have not. We currently teach five subjects in English: English, Math, Science, International Studies and Social Studies. Classes taught in English are designed to complement the Korean curriculum. Learning the entire Korean middle school curriculum, in addition to our own unique international curriculum, is not for the faint of heart. Those students who succeed and are admitted to our program have a difficult time ahead of them. But we want those challenges to be intertwined with a wealth of unforgettable memories, lasting and meaningful relationships, and good times.
By learning in YHIMS's English immersion environment, students are able to achieve a mastery of English far beyond what would normally be possible at a regular middle school, but we don't focus solely on language development. Our programs are designed to develop free thinking, and not on memorization and regurgitation. In all of our classes, we make every attempt to provide student-centered activities. We provide an environment that is conducive to the development of leadership and organizational skills and we do our very best to encourage proactive learning. Our classes are not lectures. We treat each and every class like a workshop, and our small class sizes of approximately 16 students allows for involvement of all students.
YHIMS promotes an atmosphere of discipline and integrity to transform students into responsible young men and women. A variety of unique teaching practices are employed at our school to encourage students to take responsibility for their actions and behave appropriately. The staff at YHIMS strives to transform the personal character of each student to turn them into responsible young men and women upon graduation. Individual counseling sessions, student mentoring programs, and the implementation of a behavior points system are just some of the practices used at YHIMS to facilitate a positive transformation in the students.
