Immersion Program

Characteristics of Immersion Program

By learning in YHIMS's English Immersion environment, students are able to achieve a mastery of English far beyond what would normally be possible at a regular middle school, but we don't focus solely on language. Our programs are designed to develop free thinking, not memorization and regurgitation. In all of our classes, we make every attempt to provide student-centered learning. We provide an environment that is conducive to the development of leadership and organizational skills, and we do our best to encourage active learning. Our classes are not lectures, and our class sizes of approximately 16 students allow all students to be involved.

We have gathered professional teachers from various countries to bring a diverse and balanced educational program to YHIMS students. Our teachers come from backgrounds in English, science, history, engineering, and international relations. Their background uniquely equips them to teach their respective subjects fully in English.

Subjects

English
(Essays & Discussions)

Our English classes empower students to use their voice through writing. Students acquire the skills and knowledge to communicate through their first paragraphs and then essays. All of the necessary grammar is incorporated into the curriculum. Students showcase their growth through the Essay Contest, a yearly competition that recognizes the strongest writers at YHIMS.

Science
(Student-Led Experiments)

Our science classes are rigorous, challenging students to develop scientific ways of thinking. Students build knowledge from a strong foundation and are encouraged to use their observational skills to further their studies. With three equipped laboratories, students work collaboratively with peers to complete experiments and write lab reports.

Social Studies
(Research & Presentations)

Our social studies classes focus on fostering global learners who are knowledgeable about the world—present and past. Students are given an opportunity to explore where societies have started, how they have evolved, and where they might go in the future. Students demonstrate mastery through multi-media projects and presentations.

Math
(Project Based Exploration)

Our math classes provide students with the opportunity to engage with math as mathematicians would, focusing on skills like perseverance, communication, and the ability to seek solutions when faced with unfamiliar problems. Project based learning encourages students to not only learn about math but to use it in real and practical situations, preparing them to take their learning beyond our classroom walls.

International Studies (Project Based Learning & Discussion)

In our International Studies classes, we journey across the world to help broaden and challenge perspectives on global issues and foster our students’ global citizenship. Through discussions, assignments, and project based learning, students are provided with opportunities to share knowledge, voice their opinions on global issues, and develop critical thinking skills.
