Purpose

  • YHIMS strongly believes in creating well rounded students by giving them ample opportunity to pursue not only academic knowledge but physical and artistic development as well. YHIMS strives to foster this artistic development within our students through music and the arts.
  • Students are given formal lessons several times per month in their selected instrument and are provided the opportunity to play at school festivals or to become a member of the school orchestra.

Scheduling

  • Music lessons take place during one block class per school week as well as 60 minutes every Wednesday.

Instruments Offered

  • All students at YHIMS take lessons in at least one musical instrument. All of the traditional orchestra instruments such as the violin or cello are represented as well as instruments traditional to Korea such as the Changoo or Haegeum. Modern instruments such as the electric guitar or drums are also available.

School Orchestra

  • YHIMS has a representative school orchestra complete with woodwinds, brass, percussion, strings and even a student conductor. As students gain confidence and ability in their instrument they are encouraged to join the orchestra.
